Light painting, also known as light drawing or light graffiti, is a photographic technique in which long exposures  are made usually at night or in a dark room by moving a hand held light source or moving the camera. For my own photograph, i wrote my name using a small laser light. I put my camera on a tripod and changed the settings: ISO: 100 - shutter speed: 6 seconds - F2.8.

Photography Quote...

"A good portrait is incredibly hard to create, there is too much temptation to pander to the individual rather than portray them as they really were."

Tattoo Dude.

TATTOO DUDE.

As a lover of tattoos myself I really wanted to find someone with tattoos so I could take a picture. When I asked to take this mans picture, he was very surprised that I was interested in his tattoos.

“this is the strangest thing anyone has ever asked me to do.”

From showing that I liked his tattoos he seemed proud and happy to pose and show them off for the camera. I also like how he’s still holding his cigarette and Red Bull. This contributes to his identity as it shows what he likes to drink and also suggests a vulnerability that is his addiction.

Flower Woman.

FLOWER WOMAN.

When I asked to take a picture of this woman's flower in her hair she was very excited and even asked how to pose for the camera! She told me all about the flower, where she bought it, how much it costs and how often she wears it. I loved how taking her picture made her feel happy and proud of her identity. This also led to all of her friends asking me to take their picture too! Just by asking to take someone’s photo can give them confidence and pride in who they are and what they look like. It’s an amazing feeling to know that you and your camera can make total strangers feel this way.

Camera Man.

CAMERA MAN

When I saw this man holding a camera I assumed he was a photographer so I asked if I could take a picture of him taking a picture of me. I’ve learnt that photography in general can create a good conversation with anyone, whether they are interested in taking photos or just want to have their picture taken. The man had held the camera in front of his face. This could have been to hide behind or maybe his camera is his identity - he wants to be remembered as 'that guy with the camera'.

Dreadlocks.

DREADLOCKS.

When taking the photo, I was holding the camera whilst walking at the same time so the image is not as sharp and in focus as I would have liked. However, the blurry background and the darkness of the photo gives it a good effect and a kind of gothic style. This goes well with the main subject of the photo that is the woman's dreadlocks.

Lady with dog.

LADY WITH DOG.
I chose to develop this photo because the dog is interesting to look at and the smile from its owner makes the photo light hearted and fun (similar to Elliott Erwitt’s dog photographs). I like how the dog is the main focus of the image and the background is blurry. This photo effect reflects the owners emotions towards the dog. You can see by the way she is holding it towards the camera (almost like its her baby) that she is very proud of her pet and wants to show it off. When I asked to take a photo she seemed very excited that I took an interest in her dog.
